Dear Parents:

In an effort to promote reading among Nye County School District students, and with assistance of staff, we have created “Dr. Rob’s Ranger Readers”.  As students read and complete 25, 50, 75, 100, 150 and 200 books, they will receive recognitions for each of these levels of accomplishment. By clicking on book list you will be directed to a site that contains appropriate grade level books for your son/daughter.  The list has been compiled by the book companies as age and grade appropriate.  The Nye County School District advocates that parents always have the final say as to which books are appropriate for their son/daughter and recommends that you first review and determine which books are selected and read by your son/daughter.  I recommend that you select and review which books you believe suitable for your son/daughter’s maturity and reading ability.  Each child is unique in his/her reading ability.  Some may need more challenging reading materials and others may need something less mature than what is suggested for their age level.  As you know your son/daughter better than anyone, your guidance will help to facilitate your son/daughter’s appreciation of the joys of reading. This book list is meant to serve as a helpful guide.  Should you discover or know of another source to choose from, please do so.   Book titles in red will most likely be available in your local school’s library.  All other titles may be available at the local public library.  The public librarian will be able to assist your son/daughter in locating a copy of their chosen book. Principals will determine the value of large chapter books for students. For example, books such as Harry Potter may be determined to be the equivalent of reading two (2) or more books because of the many Chapters.  The principal will have the final say on this matter.

Procedures for the Superintendent’s Book Club:

·          The Librarian will be the contact person for the school.

·          Students pick up a “Reader’s Log” from the Librarian.

·          A hard copy of the book list has been provided to parents to assist them with grade and age appropriate books so that students are challenged to read.  Please check the district’s web page for details.

·          AR books are perfect, however, a list is provided to expand students’ interest beyond AR.

Recognition Levels:

·          25 books - (Bronze) Student officially becomes a member; receives a Certificate along with Official Membership Card with a Green Star.

·          50 books - (Silver) Silver Star affixed to student’s membership card; receives Certificate and Dr. “Rob’s” Ranger Reader lapel pin.

·          75 books - (Regal Red) Red Star affixed to student’s membership card; receives Certificate and Dr. “Rob’s” Ranger Reader Embroidered Patch.

·          100 books - (Gold) Gold Start affixed to student’s membership card; receives Certificate and Lunch with Dr. “Rob” Roberts, Superintendent.

·          150 – (Royal Purple) Silver Star affixed to membership card; Certificate and Dr. “Rob’s” Ranger Reader Watch.

·          200 books – (Diamond Blue) Blue Star affixed to membership card; Certificate and Dr. “Rob’s” Ranger Reader Sweatshirt. The goal is to have students read, read, and read.

Reading is the key to success!

Sincerely,

Dr. William “Rob” RobertsSuperintendent
